In 1984, the Japanese made Yamaha cruiser-style motorcycle was seen as a major threat to the American made Harley-Davidson bikes. As the bikes got bigger and the popular Virago series made inroads in the US market, Harley, fearful of the competition lobbied for a tariff for all imported bikes over 700cc. In response, Yamaha created the 699cc XV700 Virago to avoid the new tariff. That same year, both the 750cc and 700cc motorcycles were redesigned switching from a rear mono-shock to a dual-shock design, and adding a tear-drop shaped gas tank.

The XV700 was only in production for 4 years. The replacement batteries found on this page are guaranteed to fit and cover the following years: 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987.

Even though the power of the engine was reduced, the 1984-1987 Yamaha XV700 Virago motorcycle batteries remained the same. The conventional YB16AL-A2 made by Yuasa was the original equipment. The YB an be replaced with CB, UB, AB depending on the battery brand. You may also be delighted to know that there is a sealed AGM battery available with a TWO YEAR warranty.
