A watch battery or button cell is a small single cell lithium or alkaline battery that has a pinched cylinder shape that is between 5 to 25 mm in diameter and 1 to 6 mm thick—like a button on your clothing. Button cells are used to power small portable electronic devices such as wrist watches, pocket calculators, pacemakers, digital thermometers, calculators, laser pointers, kids toys and hearing aids. Lithium cells tend to be larger in diameter and referred more often to as coin cells rather than button cells.
