The familiar looking ETX numbered Extreme Magna Power battery is manufactured by East Penn Manufacturing in Lyons, PA. You read that correct, these are American Made motorcycle batteries. It is not too often you hear made in USA anymore, especially when it comes to power sport batteries! The powerful Magna Power battery line is actually marketed under EPM Products out of Baltimore, MD as a subsidiary of East Penn Manufacturing.

It is also worth noting that these Magna Power motorcycle batteries are private labeled for many automotive box stores including O'Reilly's (Super Start Extreme), Auto Zone (Duralast Gold) as well as Pep Boys (Magna Power) and Advanced Auto (AutoCraft). There are several other well known and online brands that use the East Penn Extreme Magna Power battery. They include Braille, Big Crank, ThrottleX, Duracell, Deka Intimidator (which is the house brand sold directly by East Penn Manufacturing vs. the Magna Power and private label division marketed by EPM Products), Harley Davidson and Power Source (Lightning Start) to name a few. Not all of them will use the ETX battery numbering system and will rely on an internal stock code system or unique SKU identifier, but rest assured they all come from the same factory and will provide the power you need to rule the road.

Depending on stock availability we will either provide the Deka or Magna Power labeled version of this ETX line of batteries. However, if we experience a stock shortage we may try and find one of the other ETX brands to try and fulfill your order in a timely manner. We understand that a USA made motorcycle battery may be your most important buying factor and want to honor that loyalty.

DEKA vs. MAGNA POWER

Is there a material difference between the Deka labeled battery and the Magna Power labeled battery? The short answer is no, unless you like collecting stickers. The long answer points to politics and workarounds.

Traditionally manufacturers like East Penn made batteries for OEMs (like Harley Davidson) and private labels. But when you also market direct to consumers (the Deka label) this causes dissension within the distribution ranks. The solution, divide the country up into sales regions and limit the sale of the Deka label to them alone and create a subsidiary (EPM Products) that sells and markets direct to box stores and general distributors that extend beyond those artificial regional limitations. It is there way of protecting the margin and branding on their house brand while still being able to market and distribute the actual battery through as many channels as possible.

The only difference an end user will notice is the sticker on the front of the battery and the box it arrives in. All else is equal. They come from the same factory, off the same line, with the same specs, and in many cases even use the same UPC codes. There is no performance difference when they leave the factory floor.

The warranty period offered by many of the box stores is 3 to 6 months. Whereas most battery distributors will offer a 1 year warranty. The simplest answer we can give for this divergence is that battery distributors turn their inventory over much quicker and are not letting the batteries waste away on their shelves. These battery distributors also generally sell to battery specialist that will in-turn tend to keep batteries charged and maintained until purchased. A healthier battery deserves a longer warranty.
