Yuasa YTX20CH-BS Replacement Batteries

In the aftermarket, your Yuasa YTX20CH-BS battery (also known by stock code YUAM6220C) can be replaced with comparable brands that meet or exceed the standards set by Yuasa Battery, Inc. Yuasa is the #1 original equipment manufacturer of batteries for motorcycles, ATV's, motor scooters, snowmobiles and personal watercraft. Kawasaki and Suzuki utilize this battery almost exclusively. Impact Battery has replacement batteries that compare favorably on all or some of the most important metrics including price, CCA, AH, warranty and location of manufacture

Yes, it is true, these very different looking part numbers are indeed compatible. Riders can upgrade a bike that originally called for a YTX16-BS to the 20CH version, but really should not make a switch going in the other direction. Both of these batteries are of the same physical size and both will fit in the intended bikes without issue.

However, the YTX20CH-BS has about 17% higher CCA, but more importantly has close to 30% higher capacity. This higher amp hour capacity allows the rider to attach accessories to the motorcycle without undue harm coming to the battery. The actual specs are as follows: 270 CCA, 18Ah, and 13.4 lbs.

The YTX20CH part number is used by several brands including Moto Classic and MotoCross (stock code M6220C). Interstate Batteries and their Cycle Tron label simply place a 'C' in front of the part number. The MotoBatt high performance batteries use MBTX16U. Power Sonic attaches the PTX20CH-BS. Some of the other major brands do not yet include the high performance version of this battery and still only produce the YTX16-BS in the dry charge or sealed AGM form.

The 1996 Kawasaki VN1500 Vulcan Classic (series D, E and N) was the first motorcycle to use the YTX20CH-BS battery. The Kawasaki part number for this battery is 26012-1371. Since then it has been the battery of choice for all of the larger engine bikes made by Kawasaki including the Voyager, Nomad and Vaquero.

Suzuki also began using this battery in the early 2000's starting with the Boulevard and VZR1800 also known as the M109R. However, they seem to use it more so with their ATVs, specifically the Vinson and King Quad .
