Technology seems to be getting more so-called “bells and whistles” that go beyond basic features all the time. It seems like if you buy something like a new camera or laptop today, there is already a new and improved model on the market tomorrow—or at least it sure seems that way. Designers continue to scramble to find ways to entice consumers to buy their latest models, with features. While many of them are quite exciting and hold great appeal, the downside to it all is the increased drain on batteries.
Not surprisingly, the more features your battery-powered device has and the more often you utilize them means the more frequently your battery will need to be recharged. If your model has disposable batteries, you’ll be replacing them quite frequently as well. Keep in mind that not all rechargeable batteries are created equally. Cheap rechargeables are typically cheap for a reason; they may have a much lower output voltage and a short charge life. Be sure to ask questions about the quality

As our technology devices keep getting smaller and smaller, so do many of the batteries that power them up. A special concern to emergency room doctors is an increase in the number of tots swallowing the small, flat, so-called “button” batteries that can have tragic results.
Every three hours a child shows up in a U.S. emergency room with a battery that’s been swallowed or placed in the mouth, ears or nose, a new study shows. Most cases involve a child under the age of 5, with incidents peaking around 2. That number of cases is almost double what it was 20 years ago, according to the report just published in Pediatrics.
The main culprits are “button batteries,” which account for almost 85 percent of the ER visits, researchers found. These flat, coin-shaped batteries are used in a wide variety of electronic devices, from toys, remote controls, calculators, miscellaneous gadgets, hearing aids, and watches. Many of the toys youngster play with are powered up by these tiny batteries, making
