The Birmingham Small Arms Group or BSA instituted its motorcycle division in 1910. Following this they enjoyed much success, but struggled for market share after Japanese manufacturers like Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha began flooding the European and American markets. The British government attempted to save the company with a bail out, attempting a merger with other British manufacturers like Norton and Triumph, but workers resented the changes and the merger was unsuccessful. BSA finally succumbed in 1973 and stopped producing motorcycles, although the offroad division has survived in the form of Clews Competition Motorcycles (CCM).
