The distinctive heavily chromed body of the XV535 Virago came available with a shaft drive instead of being chain or belt driven making it unique among small V-twin cruiser-style motorcycles. Our battery books list this bike being produced from 1987 thru 1999. However, Wikipedia seems to indicate the 535cc Virago series was discontinued in 2003 in the UK and 2004 in the USA. The 650 V-Star would be the next comparable upgrade in the evolution of the bike.

The original Yamaha Virago 535 battery is the YB12AL-A2. It was a conventional style that required the user to fill the Virago 535 battery with acid and then charge prior to installation. If you ever had the unfortuneate experience of laying the bike down acid could then poor out and destroy the chrome body. Luckily for you, there is now sealed AGM upgrade produced that will arrive fully charged and ready to use. It will never leak and comes with a TWO YEAR warranty. The new Yamaha Virago 535 battery is made by MotoBatt and its part number is the MB12U.

The batteries found on this page cover the following years for the XV535 Virago motorcycle: 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1999.

If the Wiki report is correct and no changes to the battery were made then the following years may also be compatible with the batteries found on this page. It would be prudent to verify dimensions and or part numbers for these years: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004.
