In the aftermarket, your Yuasa YTX14-BS battery (also known by stock code YUAM3RH4S) can be replaced with comparable brands that meet or exceed the standards set by Yuasa Battery, Inc. Known for being the #1 original equipment manufacturer of power sport batteries, Yuasa is a name that you can trust. The widespread adoption of this battery by the three major motorcycle manufactures—Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha grew rapidly in 1991 to the point in which most every power sport player with mid-size machines has used the YTX14-BS in their lineup. Impact Battery has replacement batteries that compare favorably on all or some of the most important metrics including price, CCA, AH, warranty and location of manufacture.

We often get asked "What is the difference between the YTX12-BS vs the YTX14 battery?" Fundamentally they have the same footprint, similar specs and are only 5/8 of an inch apart in height, but that equates to one giant headache when trying to install the wrong battery! There is only 20 CCA difference in output and the YTX12 is 10Ah instead of 12ah for the larger counterpart. If you think you want to upgrade, please confirm you have the necessary clearance in height before proceeding.

Motocross vs Yuasa

Yuasa Battery Inc. uses two identifying metrics for their power sport batteries. One is a stock code number and the other is the JIS part number. As many of you may already know, Yuasa has two power sport battery lines; MotoCross (M3RH4S) created for the aftermarket and its namesake for the OEM market (YUAM3RH4S).

Physiologically they are both Yuasa Inc. batteries with no internal difference between these two brands. The only noticeable difference is the carton and battery sticker. We kid you not, these two batteries come off the same build line and depending on which direction the battery goes determines which sticker is applied.

Since both brands use the JIS standard part number, the only way to tell these batteries apart on a spreadsheet is by using a stock code. All Yuasa batteries will begin with YUAM. All MotoCross will will start with the letter M. So compare all you want, YUAM3RH4S is the same as M3RH4S is the same as YTX14-BS.

Competitive Cross Reference

There are many battery manufacturers making a YTX14-BS battery option. East Penn Deka, another global super power in the world of batteries, produces the ETX14 sealed AGM battery. Yacht and WPS use the part number CTX14-BS. MotoCross, as noted above, Chrome, Scorpion and Moto Classic use the same JIS standard numbering introduced by Yuasa. Kinetik, a division of Universal Power Group (UPG), uses the APTX14 (stock code 43022). This new SKU used by UPG replaces the old UTX14-BS part number. Power Sonic simply puts a 'PTX' in front.
