Save yourself some frustration and use our Parts Diagrams to verify exactly which Power Wheels replacement part you need. Every ride-on toy made by Mattel Fisher-Price in the last 20 years is listed for your convenience.
Power Wheels batteries are the energy source that powers your child’s ride-on vehicle! These rechargeable batteries are built to provide consistent power to the motor, lights, and any other features your child’s vehicle may have. Without the battery, your child’s ride would be stuck in place, so it’s really the heart of the fun.
These batteries come in different types, with 12V and 6V being the most common. 12V batteries are perfect for larger vehicles like a power wheels Jeep or Dune Racer, while 6V batteries provide extra power for smaller rides and plenty of fun-filled playtime. You can also find lightweight lithium batteries that charge faster but might come with a higher price tag.
Choosing the right battery ensures smooth rides and more fun time for your little adventurer. With proper care and maintenance, a good power wheels battery will keep the fun going for years.

Resource to Find the Correct Power Wheels Battery
Finding the correct Power Wheels replacement part can be tricky.
Mattel has made both 6V and 12V Power Wheels toys dating back to the 1980's. During that span there have been several recalls and countless variations of the most popular toys including the iconic Power Wheels Jeep and Jeep Wrangler.
The recalls and re-making of these toys mean your Jeep, for example, could take one of four different batteries (at one point there were 6 different batteries).
We hope to guide you to the right Power Wheels replacement battery through our various articles and info below.

Barbie Power Wheels
Power Wheels could not exist without the name Barbie. Nearly every toy—from toddlers to those in grade school—has been made with a Barbie theme. This can lead to trouble when replacing the battery.
The Barbie Jeep, for example, could take 1 of 4 different batteries.
Confusion with Peg Perego
We currently have two articles comparing or pertaining to mistakes we have seen regarding these ride-on-toy rivals.
Power Wheels is the 800-pound gorilla in the space. So, it is no surprise that search queries unknowingly mix manufacturer specific terms together.
Grey vs. Orange Top Battery
We get asked regularly what the difference is between the fully grey colored and grey with orange top 12V batteries. Or sometimes the question may be, "Can I use the orange top battery instead of the solid grey colored battery?" or vice versa.
Aside from the color differentiation there is no difference in the battery voltage or amperage. They are both 12-volt batteries. They both have a 12-amp hour capacity rating. They both use the same connector and charger.
The only material difference is that the orange top battery (model 00801-1776) has a 40A breaker vs the original 30A breaker used in the all grey colored Power Wheels battery (model 00801-0638 or 1001175653).
If your toy came with the orange top battery, then it is best NOT to buy the all grey version as the toy draws more power and will trip the internal breaker.
If your toy came with the all grey colored battery you need to stick with the same all grey colored version.

Safety Recalls
Has your toy been recalled? We can help you find the correct Power Wheels replacement part.
Several of the recalls involved the battery and/or the wiring harness assembly. If not fixed, they could cause a fire!
The battery related recalls were all on older ride-on-toy that use a 6V battery.
The green colored battery with 'H' type connector is one you need to take seriously. Those toys can be upgraded to the red colored battery with the 'A' type connector.
Call Mattel at 800-348-0751 to confirm if your toy is safe to use. Depending on the situation, they may be able to refer you to an Authorized Service Center, such as Impact Battery, to have the toy fixed.
If it is no longer serviceable they will offer you $35 to take it a Power Wheels Service Center to dispose of the toy.

We also believe in providing the best value for your money. Our batteries offer the perfect balance of price, performance, and lifespan, so you won’t have to worry about frequent replacements or poor performance. Choose from premium AGM or Lithium batteries for long-lasting, low-maintenance options or more affordable Flooded Lead-Acid batteries that still offer great power.
How to Choose the Right Battery for Your Power Wheels?
The right power wheels battery ensures your child’s ride is both exciting and reliable. Start by determining if your child’s vehicle needs a 12V or 24V battery. Smaller models, such as the power wheels Jeep and Dune Racer, typically use 12V batteries. Larger vehicles require 24V batteries for more speed and longer playtime.
Consider how your child uses their ride. If they enjoy higher speeds and longer rides, a 24V battery is the best option. For more casual, slower rides, a 12V battery will work perfectly.
The lifespan of the battery also matters. Lithium batteries charge faster and last longer, but they have a higher initial cost. AGM and Flooded Lead-Acid batteries are more affordable, though they may need more maintenance.
Measure the battery compartment to double-check that it fits your vehicle. Although Group 31 batteries are common, different models may have different compartment sizes.
Finally, consider your budget. Premium options like Lithium and AGM batteries require little maintenance and provide long-lasting performance, while Flooded Lead-Acid batteries are budget-friendly but require more upkeep.
How to Upgrade Battery?
An upgrade might be needed if the vehicle feels slower or the battery doesn’t last as long. Over time, batteries lose their power, which affects performance. If your child desires more speed or longer rides, upgrading to a higher voltage battery, like a 24V, will provide the extra performance they crave.
Check your power wheels model to see if it needs a 12V or 24V battery. Smaller vehicles typically use 12V, while larger ones need 24V for extra power.
Measure the space where the battery will be placed to ensure the new battery fits properly. 24V batteries may require more space.
Make sure the power wheels vehicle is powered off to prevent accidents before starting.
Remove the old battery and disconnect the terminals. Take note of the terminal connections for the new battery.
Place the 12V or 24V battery into the compartment and reconnect the terminals to keep them secure.
Make sure the battery fits snugly and is securely in place with no loose movement.
Charge the new battery fully (usually 6-8 hours for 12V and 8-12 hours for 24V batteries).
Once the battery is charged, turn on the vehicle and check that everything works properly.
Extend Your Battery Life - Tips & Maintenance
Taking care of your power wheels battery can help it last longer and perform better and ensure your child gets more hours of fun out of every ride. Here are some simple tips and maintenance practices to keep your battery running smoothly:
Charge Regularly:
Always charge the battery after each use, even if it’s not completely drained. This helps maintain the battery’s health and ensures it’s ready for the next adventure.Avoid Overcharging:
Don’t leave the battery plugged in for too long. Overcharging can damage the battery and reduce its lifespan. Most chargers automatically shut off when the battery is full, but it’s a good idea to unplug it once it’s fully charged.Store in a Cool, Dry Place:
Remove the battery from the vehicle and store it in a cool, dry place when not in use. Extreme temperatures - especially heat - can shorten the battery’s life, so make sure to keep it away from direct sunlight and areas with fluctuating temperatures.Clean Battery Terminals:
Dirt and corrosion on the battery terminals can affect performance. Clean them regularly with a soft cloth and ensure no buildup on the terminals to prevent poor connections.Don’t Let the Battery Completely Drain:
It’s best to avoid completely draining the battery before charging. Letting the battery die all the way can shorten its lifespan. Recharge the battery when it reaches about 20-30% for the best results.Check for Wear and Tear:
Periodically inspect the battery for any visible damage, such as cracks or leaks. If the battery shows signs of wear, it’s time for a replacement to ensure safety and performance.
