A Shift in Thinking
It is hard to believe it has been one year since the Occupy Wall Street campaign began. The Occupy Wall Street movement of 2011-2012 made headlines and on many facets divided a nation. This division most notably concerned the idea of the minority that have actual monetary wealth and perceived power compared to the majority, which on the surface, do not; the impoverished 99% vs. the high rolling 1%. Frankly it was disgusting to watch a large portion of our nation embrace the idea that hard work, ingenuity, sacrifice, learned failure and creativity are not worthwhile achievements. It saddened me to discover, as major news agencies reported, that nearly half the nation feels they are owed something by our government and those that earn a higher wage than they do.

This past weekend (July 22-24, 2011) I had the pleasure of taking my oldest son into the Siskiyou mountains of Southern Oregon and Northern California for some father/son time. We stayed in an old fire tower atop Bolan Peak nestled around 6200 ft amongst a handful of craggy peaks reaching around 7500 feet. The weather was perfect as we finally experienced summer like temperatures that had eluded us since last September. We knew this past winter produced heavy snows, but were still amazed and delighted to see large snow drifts and plenty of shady area snow pack, both quite unusual this late in the season at our elevation. Understandably, we spent our first morning hiking the ridge line south of the lookout tower sliding down the snow shoots and scurrying through the snow tunnels

People have asked, "Why Impact Battery? What kind of name and mission is that? Why do you guys give back so much? Why wear your beliefs on your sleeve? Shouldn't you keep business separate from your personal beliefs?" There have been many other questions of similar conviction. Some asked with a genuine desire for understanding and truth, others with the intent to insult or mock. Allow me to share candidly why we do what we do with a real life illustration that took place this past weekend with one of our daughters.
It happened Saturday February 19th 2011 around nine in the morning. My wife was upstairs getting ready for the day and I was driving home from a men's Bible study. Our kids were downstairs, when our 2 year old daughter climbed into the pantry in search of something sweet. Perhaps a cookie or a piece of candy.
A blood curdling scream, that every mother fears, echoed throughout the house. It was followed by a deafening and uneasy silence.
Our very active and lively daughter
