Re-Introducing IOTA Power Supply Chargers
IOTA Engineering: A Market Leader
IOTA power converters and battery chargers provide reliable AC to DC power and are recognized as one of the standard-bearers’ in the industry. Their attention to detail and utilization of state-of-the-art switch mode technology will provide you with years of service-free operation. Back in the day we used to sell a handful of these IOTA power supply chargers, but were wooed away by a competitor offering “better” pricing. During our hiatus we realized the error in our ways and asked IOTA Engineering if we could once again represent their brand. They welcomed us back with open arms.
Did you know that the IOTA power supply chargers are engineered with the user and variable environmental conditions in mind? Even when subjected to extremely harsh conditions the DLS series power solutions will ensure pumps, motors, fans and other DC powered devices operate perfectly. With an IQ4 Smart Controller installed your DLS series power supply becomes a multi-stage charger to ensure deep cycle batteries are charged quickly and efficiently without over-charging.
What Exactly Is An IQ4 Smart Controller?
The IQ4 Smart Controller provides intelligent automatic charging control for your DLS series IOTA power supply. The IQ4 can be purchased as an external component attached to any DLS power supply or as an internal component on a new DLS. Once installed, your power supply will double as a fully operational 4-stage battery charger, keeping batteries fully charged and operating in peak condition. This is why many people refer to the IOTA DLS series as smart converter chargers.
There are actually 3 models of the Smart Controller. The primary and most widely used is the IQ4. It can be found on the 12V and 24V DLS power supplies. The 54V IQ4 is used on the nominal 48V power supplies. The final one is the IQ4 Parallel which includes a specialized cord for 4-stage charging control of two 12V or 24V DLS chargers operating in parallel.
The Four Stages of IQ4 Operation
BULK STAGE
The Bulk Stage of the IQ4 allows the batteries to be charged from the full rated output of the charger (for example, a 12V charger will charge at a maximum of 14.8V). This increased charging period reduces the overall charging time of the battery.
ABSORPTION STAGE
After the Bulk Stage, the IQ4 then moves to the Absorption Stage (14.2V for a 12V battery). This mode will continue for up to 480 minutes (8 hours) to ensure that the battery receives a complete charge.
FLOAT STAGE
During the Float Stage, the IQ4 reduces the DLS charge voltage. This reduced voltage maintains the full charge while minimizing 'gassing' of the battery. The IQ4's float stage prevents boiling and bulging of the battery caused when the battery is exposed to higher charging voltages for too long.
EQUALIZATION STAGE
If the batteries remain in a "float stage" for a seven-day period, the IQ4 will switch the DLS charger into a pre-programmed Equalization Stage. This protects the life of your battery by dissolving any sulfate layer on the battery's internal plates and avoids stratification that can occur when a battery has not been in use for extended periods.
The IOTA Power Supply Charger Lineup
IOTA Engineering manufactures DLS power supplies in three nominal voltages: 12V, 24V, and 48V. The last two may easily get confused as they are referred to as 27V and 54V units, which is the actual voltage required to maintain batteries at the nominal level. The 12V units do not include the voltage in the part number. They only indicate the amperage. All the DLS models are 120V AC input unless otherwise stated.
