What to Keep in a Car Emergency Kit
Sometimes a subscription to Roadside Assistance isn't enough to keep you safe. If your car breaks down in a remote location or severe weather strikes, you need to be prepared. Keep your passengers safe by placing a car emergency kit in the trunk of your vehicle. You never know when it might come in handy.

Flashlight
The glow of your cell phone probably makes a great makeshift flashlight, but you're in trouble if your phone dies. Be sure to pack at least one flashlight in your kit in case you experience car trouble after the sun is down.
First Aid Kit
Injuries can occur after a car accident or an impromptu tire change. Bandages, tape, tweezers, aspirin, and burn-relief gel are a few good things to keep in your vehicle's first aid kit. If you take medication, consider keeping an extra bottle in the kit just in case you need it.
Blankets
When your car breaks down in the middle of a winter storm, you'll be very happy that you packed a warm blanket. Make sure the blanket is durable and thick in case you are stuck in a cold car overnight.
Batteries
Batteries are an important part of any vehicle emergency kit, but many people forget to include this versatile supply. Batteries can be used for flashlights, to operate a portable radio, or to power up a dead cellphone in case of an emergency.
Phone
Keep a prepaid cell phone with a few minutes on it in the trunk of your vehicle. This allows you to call for help if your regular phone dies. It also provides you with an extra phone in case you and your passengers split up to find help.
Clothing
Fixing a flat tire or searching for help during a storm can leave your clothing wet and cold. It can't hurt to store some extra clothing in your vehicle, including a sweatshirt and extra socks in case you get caught in some inclement weather.
Being Prepared
An unexpected emergency can occur at any moment. You may never need to use your emergency kit, but keeping one in your vehicle is always a good idea. Preparing for the worst each time you go for a drive could end up saving your life.
