Although ADT security systems run primarily on a home’s AC electricity, they also have a backup DC battery that is designed to provide power in the event of a blackout. Even if the battery is never used, the charge slowly drains over time, and eventually, it will lose all functionality. Fortunately, these batteries can usually be replaced without having to call a technician.
Before Replacing the Battery
Always handle the batteries with care. Improper use or handling of the battery may cause an acid leak, electrical discharge or explosion resulting in serious injury. Any tools used in conjunction with the removal or installation of the battery should be insulated, and both the old and new batteries should be checked for cracks or other anomalies.
Before removing the old battery, it is necessary to call ADT so that an operator can remotely set the system to test mode. This will allow the job to be completed without accidentally activating the alarm.

Purchasing a motorcycle is an exciting opportunity to take on a new hobby, but understanding maintenance issues is a must. One component that is key in keeping a motorcycle in good working condition is the motorcycle battery.
How Does a Motorcycle Battery Work?
A motorcycle battery is made up of six separate cells that each contain 2.1 volts. The total voltage of a battery in a motorcycle is 12.6 volts, and each of the cells in the battery includes positive and negative components that are exposed to a sulfuric acid solution.
The battery goes through a chemical reaction that converts the chemical energy in the battery into electrical energy that can be used to power the motorcycle.
Average Life of a Motorcycle Battery
Battery life varies depending on maintenance issues, but motorcyclists can increase the life of their bike's battery by regularly recharging it.

Battery Prices, Honda Shadow Bikes and the YTZ14S
[caption id="attachment_1481" align="alignright" width="300"] "adlowe's" 1999 Honda Shadow bike displayed on HondaShadow.net[/caption]
I was reading a forum thread regarding pricing for the YTZ14S over on HondaShadow.net and thought I would share some thoughts. In January 2010, Jan Janowski originally commented on when she could remember the YTZ14S Honda Shadow battery being $70. I had to chuckle, because it reminded me of when a container of motorcycle batteries cost between $60,000 and $80,000. The inflationary prices of 2008 sure did a number on cost as lead prices sky rocketed. Now a container costs between $90,000 and $110,000. But interestingly enough, when I peaked at some of our 750CC Shadow prices, I found them to low. The UTZ14S Adventure Power battery, we offer it for $83. And the under-rated-never-an-issue MotoBatt MBTX9U for $67.95.
The 1100CC Shadow bikes that use the acid fill 'T' shape battery (HYB16A-AB) still sell

If you own a car, you're going to have to deal with a dead battery every now and then. Despite your best efforts, you may forget to turn off the interior lights, accidentally leave the key in the ignition or do something else that causes the battery to slowly drain until it's dead. In some cases, a dead battery is truly dead and can't be revived. The only way to find out for sure is by trying to jump start your vehicle. Fortunately, it's easy to do.
What You'll Need
You only need two things to jump start a car: a pair of jumper cables and a vehicle with a working battery. In some instances, you may also need a stiff wire brush in order to clean the cables and terminals of your car's battery. For that kind of work, goggles and gloves are strongly recommended.
Is the Battery Really Dead?
Before trying to jump start a car, figure out whether or not the battery is truly dead. Try the following things:
- Put the key in the ignition. Do the lights on the dashboard light up at all? Does the

Since their introduction in 2003, Razor electric scooters have captivated children of all ages. The eco-friendly devices are a fun and affordable way to make brief trips. In addition to being popular recreational toys for children, some adults in urban settings use the scooters to commute to work or run errands.
Proper Battery Maintenance
Most models are equipped with two 12-volt, rechargeable, sealed lead-acid batteries. Each unit has an Underwriters Laboratory, or UL, approved battery charger as well. You must properly charge your Razor scooter battery to get the best range between charges. Proper charging techniques will also extend the life of the device. After extended use of your scooter, remember to turn it off and charge the battery for at least 8 hours. You can prolong the life of your battery by disconnecting it if you do not plan to ride your scooter on a regular basis. Storing a Razor scooter battery below 50 degrees Fahrenheit or allowing it to fully discharge will

Motorcycle batteries are designed to last as long as possible, but over time, they deteriorate and need to be replaced. As the electrolytes do their job, they cause a solid buildup on the plates, which causes them to lose their ability to conduct electricity. Although nothing can be done to completely stop this deterioration, the proper installation of a motorcycle battery will ensure that it is working at peak efficiency and increase its longevity.
Specific installation instructions depend on the type of battery being installed and the model of motorcycle in which it will be installed. It is always recommended to follow the instructions from the manufacturer of the battery, but a few general guidelines can help in the replacement process.
Remove the Old Battery
Before the new battery can be installed, the old one must be removed. The first step is to check the battery and its immediate surroundings for leaking battery acid or crystallized acid deposits. These are corrosive and should

With energy costs at all-time highs, it's not surprising that many people are looking for alternative ways to generate electricity. Solar power is a prime example. If the idea of reducing your dependence on traditional energy appeals to you, you may be thinking about having solar panels installed on your home. While there are plenty of advantages to doing so, there are many disadvantages as well. It's important to weigh the pros and cons before taking the plunge.
Advantages of Solar Panels
Once solar panels are installed, energy is generated for free. No raw materials are needed to produce solar energy; all you need is sunlight. Many people are drawn to this type of energy in the hopes of having very low energy bills in the future.
Solar energy lets you go off the grid. Many people dream of disconnecting entirely from the regular power grid. In sunny places, this is actually feasible.
Solar power generates no greenhouse gases. If you're looking for an eco-friendly way to produce electricity,

Memorable advertising is essential in a market that has many competitors. It is sometimes not enough for a company simply to make an outstanding product; they need a good ad campaign to promote what they offer. Below are some of the more memorable battery ad campaigns that have withstood the test of time.
Energizer
Who doesn’t recognize the pink bunny with the bass drum? The mascot and the ad campaign just keeps going and going and going . . . because it’s a battery ad that works. The company’s best campaign was when it partnered with Lucas Films in 1994 for a Darth Vader vs. The Energizer Bunny commercial.
Duracell
When Morpheus held up a battery with a bronze-colored top in The Matrix, everyone knew which brand of battery it was: Duracell, the “copper top.” While its slogan is “no battery is stronger longer,” it is the battery’s appearance and the two-word description that made it memorable. In fact, Duracell’s most famous commercials outside the U.S. were a series of pink bunny commercials.

Electric cars have been hailed as an answer to civilization's reliance on fossil fuels for a few years now. By itself, electricity produces no air pollution or greenhouse gases. It's cheaper to transport electricity on power lines than it is to drill, ship, refine, and transport gasoline to fill stations around the country.
Unfortunately, electric vehicles have some flaws that will need to be addressed in the next few years. Some of these issues stem from fundamental problems in the United States' energy infrastructure, and they will be difficult and costly to fix.
Initial Cost and Extended Savings
Electric cars may cost too much for the average driver. With an entry point of $27,700 after the federal tax credit, the base Nissan Leaf model is out of reach for many people. For comparison, a gasoline-powered Nissan Versa starts at just $11,990 and gets up to 40 highway mpg.
However, electric vehicles shine when it comes to operational cost. For somebody who drives an average of 15,000 miles
